MILD STEEL CUTTING CAPABILITIES
Hi-Tech Metals provides precision mild steel laser cutting from our East Tamaki, Auckland facility, using our two powerful 12kW fibre lasers.
From small, intricate components through to heavier plate, prototypes and repeat production runs, our laser cutting capacity allows us to process mild steel quickly and accurately while maintaining consistent results across every part.
- Mild steel up to 25mm thick
- Electro-galvanised steel (EG) up to 3mm thick
- Pre-galvanised steel (PGI) up to 3mm thick
- Maximum sheet size 3048mm × 1524mm
With two 12kW fibre lasers in-house, we have the flexibility to keep jobs moving through production, whether you need a one-off component or an ongoing production run.
Useful Laser Cutting Information
File Transfer
Send us your CAD or drawing files and our team can quickly prepare your components for laser cutting and nest them efficiently to minimise material waste. If you don’t have a suitable file, talk to us — we can often work from a drawing, sketch or sample.
Laser Etching/Marking
Our lasers can etch part numbers, serial numbers, logos and other identification directly onto most components, making it easier to identify parts through production, assembly and beyond. This is not an engraved finish. We have many samples available for viewing.
Minimum Hole Sizes
As a general guide, high-quality laser-cut holes should be no smaller in diameter than the thickness of the material being cut. Where a smaller finished hole is required, we can laser mark or pierce the centre position ready for drilling.
Cut Quality
Whilst laser cutting offers superior edge quality when compared with plasma cutting and turret-punched parts, some burrs may still occur on thicker materials. Where additional edge finishing is required, our in-house Timesaver deburring machine can quickly remove sharp edges and burrs before components move on to folding or further fabrication.
Customer-Supplied Material
While we generally prefer to cut from our own material, we can also process customer-supplied material by arrangement. Material needs to be suitable for laser cutting and free from rust or contamination that could affect the cutting process.
